Orphan Team #5 - 2014 record 64-98
Strengths: A solid rotation including 3 starting pitchers with sub 4.00 ERAs (Gio Gonzalez, 3.57; Jason Hammel, 3.47,
Matt Garza, 3.64). Several top-50 prospects as ranked by BB HQ (Jonathan Gray, P, Col, #12, Robert Stephenson, P,
Cin, #18, David Dahl, OF, Col, #36), plus Cubs blue-chip catching prospect Kyle Schwarber. Retains all of its keeper
slots and draft picks, including the 2015 overall #3 preseason draft selection.
Weaknesses: A below average lineup with limited punch. Few star players.
Outlook: Likely another season or two of losing until its impressive rookie crop arrives in the big leagues.
In the meantime, a new owner would have the opportunity to trade valuable vets (like Russ Martin, Jose Reyes,
& Michael Cuddyer) plus a surplus keeper slot for a slugger or more draft picks in order to bolster the roster's
talented young core.
