I have been trying to start a salary cap league for the last couple of years and have a handful of owners, some of which have come from this forum. Unfortunately, this league has yet to get off the ground. This being the off season, I figured it would be the right time to see if I could gather together some more owners and get this league off the ground for 2013.
I'm planning to use an outside company to keep track of our contracts and to run the auctions, but Scoresheet will handle the simulations. GM's in this league would access to two web sites. The web site that would be keeping track of our contracts and cap information would be free, I will pay for that (it's only about $80 a year).
We would be signing players to multi year contracts, like 3 to 5 years using an auction.
I want to stress that while this league would be using an auction and contracts, it's by no means complicated. What I try to do is create a system that is both realistic, but very simple. I think there is a lot of truth to be found by breaking things down to their simplist form, and that's what I have in mind with my salary cap ideas.
I have been running a basketball league for four years, and just started a football league last year with both leagues using contracts and an auction to sign players, and it's been pretty fun. I think that negotiating a real life deal is something that is lacking in most leagues.
With Scoresheet running the game simulations, and the other web site being used to sign veterans, I think we would have a pretty fun league. I'm also open to any suggestions about rules so long as they keep things fairly simple. Simplicity has worked very well in my other two leagues.
Hope to here from some of you - Happy holidays.
