We are looking for 2 owners in NL American Association. The rosters of orphaned teams are identified at...[www.scoresheet.com]

We have an established and competitive league that has been together over 10 years. We are looking for serious owners who will stay active.

We have tried to make the rules of building a team more like the challenges that a real GM would face. Many leagues allow you to keep your best 10-12 players and these players can be held forever. That can’t happen in real baseball. We allow each owner to keep 6 players and we put a time limit, ie: contract, on how long you can keep them. This forces you to think about how you will build and evolve your team.

We put 3 year contracts on every player. That means every player will go back into the pool to be drafted at a minimum, every 3 years (like most free agents). By limiting the keepers to 6 per team there are always good players to be drafted. We have found that this helps keep competitive balance and interested owners. We all love the draft process and want to keep its importance of rebuilding around our keepers. Having more quality players available keeps the draft on par with the quality of the keeper list. Teams who finished at the bottom one year have a chance to rebuild quickly. Teams who finished on top can fall if they have a bad draft.

We also have a rule around rookies. We allow you to keep 2 additional players that Scoresheet designates as rookies. If you have 1 or 2 rookies you wish to keep, you may forfeit late draft picks to do so. Most of us draft prospects and do this. Once they make it to the majors and play enough to lose rookie status we begin a 4 year contract on them. So there is incentive to find and draft the rising stars.

The contract (expiration) dates will influence who you want to keep and also influence decisions when making trades. In addition to determining fair trade value, you must evaluate the amount of time you can control a player.

Our system isn't perfect, but after years of evolving it, we feel it is a good balance of long term/short decision making…much like real GM’s are forced to make. If you are interested in more details please contact me at…DSID74@YAHOO.COM
