Two Openings in BL-Power Root

Looking for a different type of league where player AAA won’t beat you? We have two openings in BL-Power Root.

Historically, this is a 10 Team BL, with a 50-man roster cap and no drafts (but see changes below). Each owner has one group of three MLB Teams. Any of the players on those 3 teams can be put on the owner’s 50-man roster. In addition to your Root team you get two more teams. The first part of this message describes the rules for this year. We will be making changes to the rules following the season. You need to look at the history first in order for the changes to make sense. Email me at DLConradt@gmail.com with any questions.

The teams that are available:

Team #6 made up of Marlins, Cardinals and Diamondbacks
Team #8 made up of the Mets. Brewers and Giants.

Your team can only get players two ways. One is to select a player that is on one of the three MLB teams in your group. The other is to trade for them, although there has not been much trading. No other owner can pick any of the players on your three teams. In one sense, you would have way more than 50 players protected from other owners.

The reason the roster cap is important is because you can keep those players on your team no matter what. If your real-life MLB teams trade players those players change team groups here, unless they are on your Scoresheet roster. The roster is made up of the players you have entered on the web site. If you drop MLB traded players off your roster, they revert back to the team group of the real team. We generally only see one trade per season. (See Changes below.)

You can drop someone from your roster and pick another player from your 3 team group any time you want. The Scoresheet “Report a Trade” link allows you to easily move players on and off your roster. You could also trade players who are not on your roster so long as they are on one of the 3 MLB teams you control.

Player AAA has almost no impact. If starters on your real life MLB teams are injured they bring up minor leaguers which can be used by your team the next week. The All-Star effect is fairly significant. In a league of All-Stars, the league wide ERA and OPS pretty much match the those of the MLB.

Changes for Next Year.
First, we will switch to a 40 man roster since the changes will make a farm system unnecessary, which is why I chose a 50 man cap to start. Second we will add a couple of drafts. The first is a team draft the second is a player draft. These occur after you Protect/Select your Root Team. In taking team 6 or Team 8 above you are indicating that one of those MLB teams will be your Root team.

Protection - protect one team (Your Root Team, which you would keep going Forward)

First Draft - draft a second the team of your choice, which could/would change every year. This would be in November. Draft order this first year will the reverse of the Root Teams MLB records. In future years it will be based on your Scoresheet Records.
Second Draft = 5 round player draft in March of players from the 10 remaining teams. This would be around the beginning of March.

After the five player draft from the 10 unassigned teams, you may drop any of those five players and replace them with another player from the 10 unassigned teams at any time. This should allow you flexibility in dealing with player needs without creating a frenzy in picking and dropping free agents. Additionally, you can add/drop players from your Root team and 2nd drafted team at any time.

During the season if you have a player on your 40 man roster they can stay on your team until the end of the season even if traded by their real teams. After the Season any player not your Root Team will be dropped as we start the Draft process again.
