AL_Sail is in need of 2 new owners. In order to make the openings more appealing, we have decided to conduct a dispersal draft that will include the rosters of 4 teams – 2 orphans and 2 owners who volunteered to participate. If you choose to accept a spot in our league, you’ll be drafting 13 vets and up to 5 rookies from the following teams:
Team 7 (71-91)
Team 9 (79-83)
Team 2 (85-77, div winner)
Team 12 (93-69, league champ)
We have been together about 20 years. We have a core of dedicated SS owners who love to trade and trash talk. And we have several unique rules that make for a different and fun experience.
* We substitute Free Agency instead of supplementals. Each team gets 10 picks it can use at any time between the end of the draft & the trading deadline. The picks are tradeable.
* We conduct a 1-round draft for players selected in the June MLB first-year player draft. Our draft takes place in early August, so those new pros are not eligible to be selected as FAs.
* We enforce a 40-man roster limit throughout the season.
* We allow 3 Crossovers (including rookies)
* We limit rookie protection slots to 5
The effect of these rules is to create a different type of competition. It is hard to both compete now and hold a lot of rookies when there is a 40 man cap and a 5-rookie protection limit. This also, however, makes more rookies available since no one can tank and hoard them all. All in all, it makes for a balanced league with more emphasis on winning now. And the ability to pick up free agents at any time is very helpful in dealing with injuries. The roster limit helps keep a good pool of players available.
