We are a salary cap league that has blind bid free agent auctions every year, and then you have the option of putting those players to longer term contracts if you see fit. Other ways our league is similar to MLB:
Rookie "farm system" draft every November (similar to Rule 5)--in addition to your salaried roster we have a 21-man farm system (doesn't count towards salary). You then move players up to your salaried roster at a price of what round they were drafted in (400k to 1.5mm), encouraging developing your team through the farm system. You then have up to five years of control on the player at a cheap price.
Blind bid free agent auctions--supplement your team with free agents every year.
Trade Deadline July 31
August Waiver period (similar to MLB rules)

Team 13 is currently open. It was not a very well run team and thus has we will be dropping a majority of the players on it and letting the new owner start fresh. However, it will most certainly have the most money to work with in our current free agent auctions, and we ALWAYS have some big name free agents available. This year Trout and Kershaw headline our free agent class. Our league works to where unlike normal SS, you can't just keep a player forever.
