The Hangover :: Oakland Raider Style

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Oakland Raiders Head Coach Tom Cable, clearly embarassed by the treatment his team received at the hands of the New Orleans Saints, has repeatedly said that his team is not the same team the Saints spanked.   While much of their practice has been out of the sight of the media, one might assume that the plan was to keep cuts and team roster on the DL.

None of the cuts were especially noteworthy or surprising, with team veterans staying safely in place.  The cuts were:  Jonathan Compas, Center;  Joe Cohen, Defensive Tackle;  and William Franklin and Shawn Bayes, both Wide Receivers.

The one rookie who might have been especially nervous following the game against the Saints was likely Louis Murphy.  With a fumble and two drops, I would have been sweating.

One might wonder what Cable has planned to improve his team’s  performance.  He actually called the Raiders performance  “a bit like a hangover.” That’s one way of putting it.  I wonder if the tiger in the bathroom would help the Raiders find their mojo? For the record, Cable is tight lipped and made no mention of tigers or crazy dudes jumping out of car trunks.  But that Raider Nation…there’s no telling.

Brett Favre Back in a Jersey

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

It’s that time of year again.  Leaves begin to change colors, kids head back to school, Halloween decorations will be everywhere, but who cares?  The only change of season that really matters?  Football season!

That’s right…that cherished time when everyone gets their smokers ready and dust off the Cheese Head gear.  Real fans even plan ahead to the January SuperBowl Party.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock the last 24 hours, you know that Brett Favre is back.  Again.  If you are a Minnesota Vikings fan you might not agree with me, but this isn’t the best public relations move for Mr. Favre.   How many times is this guy going to jump back in?

brett-farveAt some point in your career do you ever sit back and think – “This guy Stafford at Detroit could really rock my world,” or “Manning is still kinda young….right?”

On Twitter today, someone tweeted sarcastically “Why Can’t I Quit You?” in regards to Favre.   I agree 100 percent.  We can’t quit him, because he won’t quit.  What is driving Favre back into the league?   Is he afraid he’ll be forgotten?  That’s not going to happen. Could it be a mid-life crisis keeping this man in a jersey?

Either way, retire and relax. Or, get your tail end whooped.  Just pick one. And stick with it.
