Rockies Nearly Clinch It

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

One more win and the Colorado Rockies will make it to the Playoffs. It’s true that as a Giants fan, it wasn’t easy to watch the Rockies slay the mighty Giants. But now that the Giants are out of it, I hope the Rockies hold on and take their spot as National League champs. Normally I’d never say that. I don’t root for hockey teams or football teams from Colorado, either. I don’t hate Colorado, in fact I’ve never been there. But I never root for teams that are younger than my kids.  And I remember when the Rockies were just starting out.

Sometimes the Denver newspaper doesn’t even root for their own MLB team.  In fact back in July, the Denver Times said that the Rockies had no coaching going for their pitching staff. And here they are, poised to take the National League championship.  Damn Giants.

Penny Added to Giants Roster

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

After a bitter divorce from the Dodgers, Brad Penny has found a new home.  This time in the City by the Bay.  The San Francisco Giants reached an agreement with  Penny, on Monday August 31,  the deadline for post season play eligibility.  This addition has become a focal point of post season hopes, as the beloved Giants are now tied with the Colorado Rockies for the National League Wild Card lead.

Its expected that Penny will replace Joe Martinez in the rotation.   And why not?  He had a 5.61 ERA with the Red Sox this season, who signed him to a 1 year deal worth $5 million.  (It’s not bad work if you can get it).  You might remember that prior to the Sox, he was at home with the Dodgers for four seasons.   His shoulder issues caused his career, and his team, serious difficulties.

Will Penny bring enough heat with him to help our beloved Giants clinch NL Championship victory? Signing Penny might indicate that the team doesn’t expect Randy Johnson to bring much to the race for the pennant.
